S.A.F.E. Approach for Workplace | Train the Staff Program

About the Program

The S.A.F.E. Approach for Business is designed specifically for those in the professional, commercial, and service industries where the effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills can reduce the risk of negative or violent encounters with customers and the public in general.

At the heart of The S.A.F.E. Approach is the concept of recognizing potentially hazardous situations and mitigating their impact all while treating individuals with dignity and respect – a key component. We know that compassion, empathy and a comprehensive understanding of human behavior can resolve or even prevent most conflicts. It’s only on rare occasion that an individual must resort to some form of defensive posture or response, but it’s this key component of our training that separates The S.A.F.E. Approach™ from many others: our simple, effective and easy to remember methods for enhancing personal safety.

Why S.A.F.E?

Businesses today face an ever increasing responsibility to care for and protect their employees. All employers have a general duty to provide their employees with a workplace free from recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm. Not only must you concern yourself with quality of service or goods you provide, but you also have a duty to protect these individuals from recognized likely causes of physical harm.

Quite frankly, there are a number of considerations you face in bringing a complete workplace violence reduction program to your business. From civil and criminal law to satisfying your customers, each of these requirements has costs associated with them, both in staff training and curriculum expense. As businesses strives to minimize expenses and better manage assets, administrators are looking for programs that are cost-effective and yet provide excellent training and resources to assist in protecting all who enter their facilities.

This is why The S.A.F.E. Approach method was developed; to provide corporate owners, administrators, security directors and others peace of mind in knowing that their employees – at all levels – have been trained in effective methods of resolving conflict. As you familiarize yourself with our program, you will see that we have extensive experience in conflict resolution.

The word Safe in The S.A.F.E. Approach tends to speak for itself; however, to further define our program, we use the acronym S.A.F.E. as follows:

  • S – Safety
The S.A.F.E. Approach™ method has the safety or everyone in mind. Those who participate in our training learn techniques that will keep them safe and others as well.
  • A – Attitude
It’s been said that, “We can’t control others actions; we can only control our own!” While this may be true in many encounters, we believe that our own attitude plays an important role in any encounter and has a strong influence on the attitude of others.
  • F – Focus
In order to be effective, we must maintain focus on the techniques taught. As we all are aware, habits form when we repeat routines of behavior. Done enough, these habits become subconscious activities.
  • E – Empathy
Empathy has been defined as “the capacity to recognize, and to some extent, share feelings that are being experienced by another.” It is an important component of The S.A.F.E. Approach™ method.

Active Shooter Response | SROs & Small Agencies

Workplace Violence 3 Day

Cost – $697

Strategos’ active shooter training is designed with the idea that you – the person on the scene when the attack occurs – are the true first-responder. What you do may determine who lives and dies that day.

While we’d like to think that people can rise to the occasion, it’s more accurate to state that people rise – or fall – based on the level of their training. Our natural responses to violent intruders are often completely at odds with what we need to do to prevail. Absent training, people have often:

  • Run toward the sound of gunfire to confirm that the threat was real.
  • Engaged in “normalcy bias” – denying that they’re under attack despite overwhelming evidence.
  • Freeze in place instead of taking fundamental actions such as locking a door.

We’ve trained more than 275,000 people (and counting). Knowledge is power – power to resist and prevail against a violent intruder.

When people are trained, they can respond to a threat with confidence and resolve.

High-Risk Terminations | HR, Managers & Supervisors, C-Suite

1 Hour

Who Should Attend: Human Resource Directors, Managers/Supervisors, C-Suite Personnel

Description

Terminations are never easy for either the employee who is being separated or the supervisor/leader who is conducting the termination. Added to existing stressors are the unknowns answers to questions like “How will this termination be received by the employee?” “Will they react with shock or grief?” “Do they have the potential to act out in the form of violence against supervisors and co-workers?” This course will allow the participant to be educated on not only objectively determining if the upcoming termination is “high-risk” but also outline leading practices for assessing, planning and conducting “high-risk terminations”.

Topics Covered

  • Objective Behavior Risk Assessments
  • Two Types of High-Risk Terminations
  • Termination Preparation and Planning
  • Maintaining Dignity and Respect During the Termination Meeting
  • Room Selection for Termination Meeting
  • Safety and Security Mitigation Considerations

Conflict Management & De-Escalation | Employees

2 Hour Level 1

“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but rather the ability to resolve conflict without violence.”

C.T. Lawrence Butler

When it comes to workplace conflict, there are two approaches:

  • Fan the flame
  • Extinguish the flame

Many well-meaning people fuel a conflict when their goal is actually to defuse it. And in today’s volatile workplace environment, that can lead to a crisis. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, more than 2 million Americans experience workplace violence each year.

  • 2 hours of classroom instruction focused on communication, safety awareness, recognition and de-escalation of real world workplace violence situations.
  • Unlimited class size.

No one wants to add to those statistics.

Often, it comes down to a lack of training. And that’s the good news. Many conflicts can be
minimized or avoided with education.

Our Conflict Management and De-Escalation course helps managers and employees:

  • Recognize the signs of a potential conflict
  • Treat all people with dignity and respect
  • Recognize signs of aggression
  • Reduce risk
  • Tactically position yourself for a safe interaction
  • Professionally conduct interviews in a neutral, objective manner
  • De-escalate aggression
  • Turn a negative interaction into a positive one

Strategos International has shared these principles with:

  • Airport personnel
  • U.S. government agencies
  • Health care staff
  • Workplaces in diverse industries

Let us know how we can help you remove unnecessary conflict from your workplace and
free up energy for more productive tasks.

Active Shooter Prevention & Response | Managers & Supervisors

Workplace Violence 2 Hour

The objectives and topics covered during this training provide workplace leaders, administrators, supervisors, human resource personnel, security and front line personnel with information and strategies on recognizing and responding to the violent intruder.

If the event were to occur what would the impact be to our customers, employees and culture? And how does “preparing in advance” assist in either preventing the event or mitigating the impact if it were to occur.

The overall goal of this training program is to provide the course participant with guiding principles and strategies to recognize behavioral pre-cursors to threatening and potentially violent incidents and then to respond accordingly.

Participants will learn to:

  • Recognize the frequency of incidents of intruder related violence in the workplace
  • Physiological & Psychological “pros vs. cons” of “trained vs. untrained” employees
  • Identify and recognize risk factors that are inherent to the workplace
  • Recognize on-duty law enforcement capabilities/limitations in responding to these types of incidents
  • Understand and accept that the violent intruder event will most likely be over PRIOR to law enforcement arrival or as the intruder becomes aware of law enforcement presence
  • Understanding the importance of awareness, education and training for front line personnel
  • Attacker/Intruder psychological worldview, goals and motivations
  • Understand and implement principles of LOCKDOWN – “preventing access” vs. “delayed egress” in the workplace
  • Understand and implement principles of LOCKDOWN FAILURE “preventing access failure” via the “3 OUT RESPONSE MODEL”
  • Behavior & Body Language Indicators/Pre-cursors that could escalate to violence
  • Introduction to Behavior Risk Assessments
  • High Risk Termination Criteria & Best Practices
  • Recognize and understand phenomenon of “Normalcy Bias” and training relative to overcoming this phenomenon
  • Understand sensory based decision making and how it affects proper and improper response to the crisis

Training includes classroom lecture, instructor walkthrough, demonstration and Q&A’s as well as realistic scenario based training that activates the “sympathetic nervous system”. Activating the SNS in training has proven most effective in preparing staff and personnel for response beyond the level of “lockdown” only and truly gives them the capacity to mitigate and prevail in this “worse case scenario.” Curriculum includes not only lockdown training but also “lockdown failure” response principles.

Behavior Risk Assessments

1 Hour

Who Should Attend – Human Resource Directors, Managers/Supervisors, C-Suite Personnel

Description

Have you had an employee that co-workers or supervisors were concerned about their behavior related to potential violence or self-harm? Has progressive discipline related to decreased performance now reached the point of a separation or termination of an employee?

No single behavioral indicator (other than direct threats) is an accurate predictor of the potential for future violence. As bad as missing behavioral risk indicators is unfairly labeling someone a risk when they really are not.

This course will allow the participant to transition from a subjective opinion about predictive potential of future violence or self-harm to an objective assessment of a current or former employee. Many times, employees or supervisors will “assess” or voice their concerns based on a statement like “I have a bad feeling about how Jim is going to handle this corrective action or termination.” When asked if they can be more specific, they really cannot provide more objective information that will allow the organization to determine if this will be handled as a “high-risk termination” or not.

Topics Covered

  • Victim vs. Victimizer Worldview
  • Aggravating vs. Protective Behavioral Factors
  • Cluster and Singular Risk Factors
  • Risk Assessment Scoring
  • Subjective Opinion vs. Objective Assessments

About the Program

The S.A.F.E. Approach™ is an exciting training program designed specifically for those in the healthcare field where the effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills can reduce the risk of negative or violent encounters with patients, visitors and co-workers.

The S.A.F.E. Approach offers nursing contact hours for Levels I, II, & III. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Approach from many others: our simple, effective and easy to remember methods for enhancing personal safety.

Why S.A.F.E?

There’s no question that those in the healthcare industry are experiencing an ever increasing responsibility to care for and protect their staff, patients and visitors. The Occupational Safety and Health Act mandates that, in addition to compliance with hazard-specific standards, all employers have a general duty to provide their employees with a workplace free from recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm. Not only must you concern yourself with quality medical care, but you also have a duty to protect these individuals from physical harm.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 60 percent of all non-fatal injuries from occupational assaults and violent acts occur on health care and social service workers. Further, these acts occur most often in hospitals, nursing and personal care facilities, and residential care services.

Quite frankly, there are a number of considerations you face in bringing a complete workplace violence reduction program to your healthcare facility. From civil and criminal law to satisfying medical surveyors, each of these requirements has costs associated with them, both in staff training and curriculum expense. As the industry strives to minimize expenses and better manage assets, administrators are looking for programs that are cost-effective and yet provide excellent training and resources to assist in protecting all who enter their facilities.

This is why The S.A.F.E. The Curriculum:

The S.A.F.E. Approach offers nursing contact hours for Levels I, II, & III. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

We are fully aware of the demands placed on staff member’s time. Every moment spent in training is time away from their ever important tasks. Therefore, our goal is to effectively train your staff, do so in a timely manner, and provide you with peace of mind knowing that your co-workers have the tools necessary to make sound competent decisions.

As you’ll notice, testing is an important component at each level. In order for the organization and The S.A.F.E. Approach to validate the learning process, each participant is tested on key information contained in their training. While not extremely difficult, this testing provides important feedback to the instructor and the organization as to the quality of instruction and materials and provides important feedback to administrators. Additionally, all students in Level II and Level III training receive handouts that are theirs to keep. This ensures that participants are afforded the opportunity to refer back to the techniques they have learned as needed.

There are generally three levels of training using The S.A.F.E. Approach method:

Level I (2 hours of CEU credit provided)

Level I is a 2-hour block of instruction designed for those staff members who rarely, if ever, have care responsibility of patients. These individuals usually include office staff, phone operators, maintenance workers, housekeeping, food services, etc.

Level I training includes topics such as:

  • Customer Service
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Safety Awareness, and
  • Recognizing and Diffusing Conflict and Aggression
  • Level II (4 hours of CEU credit provided)

Level II instruction is designed for those staff members who have responsibilities that include frequent patient contact. These individuals would include doctors, nurses, aides, technicians and others. Level II training includes Level I topics and adds two additional hours of instruction, for a total of four hours of training.

Many of the topics covered in Level II are taught in Level I. However, this level has the added component of Personal Safety Measures. We instruct the participant on how to protect themselves and potentially those around them before, during or after there has been a failure in communication.

Level II training includes topics such as:

  • Customer Service
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Recognizing and Diffusing Conflict and Aggression
  • Personal Safety Measures
  • How to avoid being trapped in a room
  • Planning for escape as a matter of routine, before it’s too late
  • How to quickly and effectively escape when you are hit, grabbed, knocked to the ground or in some way physically assaulted
  • We routinely receive positive feedback on this training. Not only do the participants often express their gratitude for the knowledge they receive, but they also appreciate their employer affording them this opportunity.

Level III (8 hours of CEU credit provided)

Includes Level I and II with four additional hours added (8 hours, total) designed for those staff members who may or may not have frequent patient contact; however, they are often tasked with controlling and/or stabilizing disruptive or violent persons. Depending on your facility, these individuals may include both medical and non-medical staff members. This task may not only be hazardous for the patient and staff member, but it can open the organization to significant legal exposure if not performed and documented correctly. This training is especially important if your facility is confronted with situations involving trauma, mental illness, the elderly or drug and alcohol abuse.

Level III training encompasses all of the topics taught in Level II, but with the added component of restraint. One key component of this training is the team approach. Rather than rushing in with either no plan or a rather weak plan, we show participants how and why a careful, coordinated approach – utilizing proper communication and physical technique – will result in a successful restraint with minimal injury and complaint.

Church Security Training

Prevail!™ for Churches E-Learning Course

Church Security Planning & Active Shooter Preparedness

One of the objections by leadership to training staff and team members is that by doing so might create fear within the organization. What should be understood is that fear already exists on this topic as a result of media broadcasts and social media. Additionally, there is a fundamental misunderstanding of where fear comes from – FEAR comes from having a problem WITHOUT a solution. In other words providing practical and simple education on this problem actually REDUCES FEAR not increases it.

PREVAIL! can help your organization comply with OSHA’s General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1) – requiring employers to provide their employees with a place of employment that “is free from recognizable hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious harm to employees.” PREVAIL! will raise your personal awareness when it comes to potential workplace violence threats and/or an active shooter event. A trained response will save lives…yours and those around you!

Here’s a breakdown:

PREVAIL! was designed in easy-to-use modules. Organizations using PREVAIL! have several implementation paths –

The 2 hr. PREVAIL!™ Active Shooter Preparedness for Employee course:

  • Typically, each training session starts with PREVAIL!™ the Movie. This 13 min. dramatic video sets the stage for the session by engaging participants quickly – emotionally – by watching an active shooter event unfold in their workplace. The purpose of this movie is to engage the viewer to relate to these types of incidents occurring and although they don’t realize it while watching it there are clips from the movie utilized later in the program to illustrate learning points like “normalcy bias”, “3 OUT Response Model”, etc.
  • Next, Preparing to PREVAIL!™ module is an introduction to the the session by discussing key learning points in an active shooter event as well as learning objectives for the program.
  • PREVAIL!: The OUT Actions™ goes into detail about the 3-OUT Intruder Response Approach.
  • The last module of the course then discusses the psychology and motivation of the of attacker in PREVAIL!: Understanding the Adversary™

The participant then has the opportunity to apply what they have learned in several computer based interactive scenarios where their responses are critiqued.

The participant then completes the course by completing an assessment to measure their understanding in applying what they have learned and all results are stored and the participant who successfully completes the assessment will then be issued a certificate.

3-4 hr. Personal Awareness & Safety for Believers

The stats say it all. Somewhere in America, a person is assaulted sexually or otherwise every 1 ½ minutes, according to the U.S.

Department of Justice. Have you found yourself in uncomfortable geographic areas or in environments where the surrounding
demographics made you feel uncomfortable? Perhaps you have been in a situation where you all of the sudden found yourself feeling scared or unsure simply because you were not in a state of awareness prior to finding yourself in a bad area or situation. OR worse yet found yourself in an area that you have always felt safe only to find out that you were not.

This course has been specifically developed for the Christian believer, and is supported with Biblical authority for protecting yourself and others against the realities that the Christian believer lives with each day. Living a life for God and spreading his message to those with “hurts, heartaches and hang-ups” often puts Christians in environments and situations in which the “Great Commission Target Market” lives, works and survives in. The additional challenges that Christians are faced with is that while we are spreading a message of HOPE and TRUTH we forget that sometimes THE TRUTH sometimes angers those who hear it, no matter if it is presented with “grace & love”. There has also been a false message in terms of security presented to Christians “being aware and preparing in advance” for our safety shows a lack of faith in God to protect. These realities necessitate the need of educating Christians on the ideas of awareness, preparation and the mindset of the “rights & duties of self defense”. Those that state this and believe this forget about the truth of “1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may Devour.”

This course will answer and assist today’s Christian with these questions and also assist in overcoming objections to personal
awareness and safety.

The following topics will be covered in this 4 hour block.

  • Biblical authority for awareness & safety/security
  • Overcoming objections for protection of self and others
  • Demographics & Stats of Violence Against Women (& others)
  • Why Fight Back? – Stats & Justifications

1-Day First Responders Chaplaincy/Ministry – LEVEL 1

This class is open to everyone! You do NOT have to currently be a Chaplain to attend.

Learning how to effectively serve your first-responders and your community. Chaplains provide a vital service to law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency responders. Not only do they support these professionals, they bring comfort to people displaced by disaster or victimized by crime. But, WHO TRAINS THE CHAPLAINS? Often well-meaning pastors and ordained ministers must learn through the school of hard knocks. In addition, they often have the disadvantage of not understanding the culture and stresses of law enforcement and emergency responders. The realities faced daily by police, firefighters and paramedics differ markedly from the routines of most pastors. Yet with training, this gap can be bridged.

The First Responders Chaplaincy Training equips pastors, volunteers, and first responders to support professional protectors and their families in relevant ways. It also gives insight into how chaplains can partner with responders to serve and comfort the community. Attendees will receive an introduction into the perspective of law enforcers and emergency professionals.

The program offers a balance of instruction and practical exercises. We will work through real-life scenarios together to prepare for real-time incidents in the field.

Churches provide an atmosphere of comfort, refuge, worship, and learning. Church security must be developed without compromising a church’s core mission. In fact, if implemented wisely, church security will complement and amplify the mission of the congregation by increasing awareness, preparedness, and capabilities to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. Isaiah 28:16 “So, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”

1-Day Conflict Management & De-escalation Training

Our culture is awash in violence and churches don’t get an exemption. Attacks can be motivated by hostility to faith, but most of the time churches are caught in the crossfire of a domestic dispute, a relational conflict or mental illness. Regardless of the motivation, the risk is the same. Since Christian leaders are charged to care for their flocks, these realities cannot be ignored.

Are your church staff, ushers, greeters, lay leaders and security team prepared to effectively handle an encounter that includes anger, rage or assault? Unfortunately, most places of worship must answer “no.” But change is possible. It’s time to get S.A.F.E.

In this course, we focus on: Safety • Attitude • Focus • Empathy

The S.A.F.E. Approach helps churches effectively respond to threats in a manner that maintains dignity and respect for all. The chief goal is to de-escalate a hostile situation so that violence never occurs. However, no matter how skilled your approach, some physical attacks cannot be prevented. Because of this, the S.A.F.E. Approach provides instruction for staff and volunteers on how to respond to a physical attack.

Level 1 – Recommended for all church staff.

Two hours of classroom instruction covering topics including:

  • Interpersonal communication
  • Safety awareness
  • Recognizing and diffusing conflict and aggression

Level 2 – Recommended for staff who regularly interact with the public and people under duress.

Level 2 builds upon the skills learned in Level 1. Two additional hours of training focus on a series of physical skills designed to help you protect yourself when attacked. You’ll learn how to break free from choke holds, hostile grips, “bear hugs” and other types of assault.

Level 3 – Recommended for staff and volunteers who may be called upon to protect themselves or others if physical conflict occurs.

Level 3 builds upon the skills learned in Levels 1 and 2. Four additional hours of training focus on learning team skills that stabilize a person who is intent on hurting himself or others.

Movement and Response Principles for the Armed Protector

This course focuses on behavioral-based responses for armed protectors, including decision making in and around crowds during an active threat. Students will practice techniques using demo weapons and holsters (provided). The importance of training armed protectors to move through crowded environments and handle weapons properly cannot be overstated. Preparation is required in order to make proper, time-compressed decisions in worst-case scenarios.

This course includes drills for a variety of weapon carry positions and movements. You’ll learn how to apply these principles in different environments and contexts. This training is conducted at a church and will conclude with several scenarios where students will have an opportunity to practice simulations of a real event.

1-Day Compliance & Control for Church Protectors

As church leaders we are biblically, ethically and legally obligated to provide the safest worship environment for our visitors, members and staff. In doing so we do not want to compromise the environment of comfort, refuge and worship that we strive for. With that in mind, this course was designed to empower the “First Line” responders that serve on the church staff with the skills and application proficiency needed to de-escalate situations within the church walls that become physical in nature.

The desire of any church is to prevent a volatile situation from becoming physical, however when this is not possible it is very important that your staff be trained and equipped in a manner that allows them to de-escalate physical confrontations in a manner that is efficient, effective AND allows them the greatest opportunity to prevent injury to themselves or others. When possible if these physical confrontations can be defused in a manner that is “camera friendly” and this should be the objective.

Topics Covered:

  • Discussion on the foundation of compliance and control.
  • Discovering what “Breathing, relaxation, posture and movement” really are.
  • Will address the question “How strong do I have to be?”
  • The many uses of a “Simple” hand shake.
  • The use of “Soft” empty hand techniques for control
  • Applying restraint type of holds and providing controlled escort.
  • Defense against different weapons (Knifes, improvised tools…etc)
  • Working within the confined space of church or through a crowd.
  • Protecting one’s own equipment (Handgun, Tazers…etc.)

In order to better understand this course, you will need to think as a builder. When dealing with physical conflict you must first have a foundation of skills and principles on which to build on. This is completed through situational training that has been designed to test you as a protector.

This course is physical in nature and participants should realize this prior to signing up for a course. Having said that the principles taught do not rely on strength and stamina as much as they do breathing, relaxation and proper understanding/application of the physics of confrontations between single or multiple adversaries.

Who should attend?

  • Church security/safety staff
  • Church leadership personnel that could become involved in a physical confrontation

Prevail!™ for Middle School/High School Personnel E-Learning Course

Prevail!™ for Schools – Active Shooter Preparedness for Middle School/High School Personnel E-Learning Course

The PREVAIL!™ for Schools Active Shooter Preparedness for Middle School/High School Personnel E-Learning course:

90-min Parent & Community Role for Countering Active Shooter Threat in Schools

School safety and the possibility of an active threat or shooter in schools causes parents to have anxious thoughts about their child’s wellbeing – and for good reason. However, there has been tremendous progress for schools taking the initiative to prevent intruders from gaining entry into school buildings, in addition to their partnership with law enforcement regarding an understanding of each party’s response to a reported threat. This partnership between schools and law enforcement is enhanced with the involvement of the community, especially parents, grandparents, and guardians of students.

This 2-hour seminar is presented in a community forum approach and includes a question and answer section for parents, teachers and the public to provide their comments and concerns. We find this interaction helps bring peace of mind and inform parents/guardians of everything school districts are doing to ensure the safety of their students, what to expect from school/district leadership if an incident were to occur during the school day, and learn what their responsibility is from a prevention, response and recovery perspective for everything from a natural hazard to a man-made event.

Topics include:

  • Are schools safe?
  • The threat of intruders in our schools
  • Review of the U.S. Secret Service/ Department of Education Safe Schools InitiativeReport and lessons learned
  • How to help prevent incidents
  • How to report potential threats to law enforcement or school leadership personnel
  • Bullying prevention tips and what to do if your child is bullied
  • Your role if there is an incident at your child’s school
  • An overview of school safety and lockdown plans

5-Day Texas Schools Guardian Course

COST – $1295 per person
Who is this for? – School selected and vetted certified staff, administrators and non-certified staff

Pre-Qualification Requirement – You must already have your Texas LTC license to be certified Texas Government Code 411.1901 “Protection of Children Act Guardian Program”.
The Strategos International 5-Day Texas School Guardian Course IS NOT only just another firearms course.

We have found that when you teach someone to just use a hammer, every problem becomes a nail. We focus first on how to respond to a threat, protecting the classroom without a gun and build from there. We are NOT trying to make school staff a law enforcement officer to go after the attacker but instead to “Guard” or defend space to better protect people exposed to a threat. We recognize that no one solution fits every school and can customize any course for a specific client based on their needs. Every community must ask and decide the following question: “what are we willing to do to protect our children?” and then work from that point forward.

This five-day course starts with the premier Strategos International intruder response model teaching our Active Shooter/Intruder Response Training (ASIRT) course for unarmed response. This four-hour course covers background and history, lockdown and lockdown failure plans and our acclaimed “3-Out” response model recognized in the “Final Report of the Federal Commission on School Safety: Presented to the President of the United States December 18, 2018.”

We will discuss proper weapon concealment, carry options, and selecting a high-quality holster, then conduct dry technical movement with a firearm, ready positions and moving in or through crowds with a firearm.

There will be extensive force-on-force drilling with projectile based training systems that teach decision making under stress, proper movement, maintaining weapons platform, controlling stress, and many more needed principles and skills for deadly force engagements. This will be video recorded and reviewed to assist students understand what they perceived was happening and what reality was to correct their behavior.

Two days of live fire training in a “crawl, walk, run philosophy” to take each student much farther in the time available. We focus on principles, tactics and techniques that will lead to success in an armed encounter. Participants learn not only how to survive but to PREVAIL in protecting their people/students from an armed threat. We believe that proper training achieves both “Capability that breeds Humility.” In other words, by achieving a higher level of skill you will be able to better maintain composure while under duress. Through managing fear the capable responder will operate more confidently, more quickly, and make better time compressed decisions in the stressful and chaotic environment of the actual emergency.

It will cover basic firearms handling, functioning and break down of the weapon, loading and unloading procedures, drawing and recovering to the holster, shooting on the move, reloading and emergency reloading techniques, immediate action drills for malfunctions and much more. The final day will be force-on-force scenarios as the “Guardian” staff member protecting the classroom.

Strategos International is a licensed through Texas Private Security Bureau to provide training and consulting via Texas License #CO6265601.

4-hr Bus Driver Awareness, Safety and Intruder Response Training

Although schools are becoming more secure, buses are still often vulnerable targets. However, with driver education, buses can be safety zones for students.

School bus drivers being the only adult on a bus that can respond effectively already realize that they have a significant responsibility and may already be anxious about this topic. The key to reducing anxiety with our school transportation personnel is to educate them on the topics of awareness, safety and intruder response. Once they are educated they really do see that a bus can be secure because of its mobility and design if they are in an aware state of mind, know what to leverage their environment to their advantage and look for and know how to respond to threats that may present themselves outside of the bus or do not present themselves until they are already inside of the bus.

Topics include:

  • Why are school and mass transit buses a target?
  • Awareness when approaching bus stops
  • Identifying threat areas at bus stops
  • What makes buses difficult to board
  • Mobility of buses as a deterrent and mitigation response
  • Intruder Response – What if the intruder makes it on the bus?
  • Response differences to different types of threats

1-Day Crisis Casualty Care for School Personnel

This course is for school nurses, teachers, administration personnel, maintenance/facility staff and faculty. No previous medical training is necessary.

This course will give you and your staff the skills and tactics you can use to save lives and dramatically change the outcome for a critically injured person in less than 60 seconds. When the crisis event occurs, medical first responders are trained not to be present in the danger area until the scene is safe and secure, this could take up to an hour or more.

When a medical emergency occurs, success or failure will depend on the person on the scene, not the professional first responders. Crisis Casualty Care is not a basic first aid course. The concepts presented are based on the most current and innovative techniques currently in use by the U.S. military as dictated by the Tactical Combat Casualty Care model as well as civilian EMS trauma guidelines.

2-Day Behavior Pattern Recognition & Assessment

Strategos International has created doctrine and training for “Behavioral Pattern Recognition™ (BPR) for the School Violence”. Strategos has extensive experience in training over 275,000 school, faith-based,healthcare and workplace organizations related to real, practical and effective solutions in 3 phases of “active shooter & intruder response” crisis incidents . . . PREVENTION, RESPONSE and AFTER ACTION.

Strategos’ combined experience makes this course a must attend for SCHOOL personnel (administrators, teachers, staff) and LAW ENFORCEMENT personnel (SROs, Supervisors & Front Line Officers).

“Behavior Pattern Recognition & Assessment for School Violence” course primarily focuses on the PREVENTION phase of active shooter incidents. This course DOES NOT focus on trying to establish a “profile” but rather “behavioral patterns” that can be recognized in advance as well as socio-economic risk factors that contribute to “avenger” behavior” escalation and boundary probing behavior by the attacker. RECOGNIZING “behavioral pre-cursors” is just part of the equation to preventing these incidents. APPROACHING, INTERVIEWING (passive & targeted), DE-ESCALATION strategies for at risk students or persons that are exhibiting risk indicators is also a significant part of this course through education and practical exercises. A smaller portion of the course provides an overview of a few RESPONSE and AFTER ACTION strategies related to lockdown, lockdown failure and after action response.

The successful participant will have the ability to serve on a “School Behavioral Threat Assessment Team” to objectively determine whether a risk of violence is non-existent, low, medium or high. Additionally, they will be equipped with information and tools to develop a risk reduction mitigation plan.

Topics Covered:

  • Behavior vs. Profiling – Why Profiling DOES NOT Work
  • School Active Shooter Incidents – Evolution of School Attackers, Law Enforcement and School Personnel Response

Upon completion of this intensive 2-day course, participants will be able to effectively clear and defend a building or room using low light tactics.

We teach principles and techniques for prevailing in the realm of conflict. This is not a flashlight shooting techniques course. Developed over 20-years of interaction with military units (including special forces), federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, this groundbreaking course equips operators with the foundational precepts of both day and night confrontations.

We do not focus on final outcomes, but address the underlying processes that will determine the conclusion of any given conflict.

We present and test:

  • The core principles of low light CQB (close-quarter battles) and low light CQC (close-quarters combat) and conflict resolution

Firearms & Tactical Training

Firearms & Tactical Training Course Applications for the Pistol – Level 1

This dynamic and life-changing course is intended as an introduction and foundation for the base skills necessary to act as a discreetly armed protector as part of a life safety team. We combine the fundamentals of marksmanship with basic tactical principles to teach you skills for how to fight and defend life with a handgun. Our discussions include the lawful and biblically proper use of force supported by Supreme Court case precedents. These skill competencies include deploying your pistol, firing, maintaining situational awareness, and managing your gear while:

  • Bilaterally using a stationary position of concealment/cover;
  • Moving forward and backward with your pistol ready in an “up” or high ready position;
  • Moving laterally and at oblique angles with your pistol ready or engaged;
  • Utilizing one or both hands from a variety of positions and fighting platforms.

Our building-block approach is appropriate for the novice who is already familiar with their pistol as well as the experienced individual who wants to take their skills and abilities to a new level. We focus on principles, tactics, and techniques to set you up for success in an armed encounter. As protectors, our mindset must be more than merely to survive, but rather to prevail and WIN in an armed attack.

Exercises and Drills Include:

  • Safety and the Fundamentals of Marksmanship
  • How to Discreetly Carry and Deploy a Firearm
  • Proper Draw Stroke and Proper Recovery to the Holster
  • The Lawful, Justifiable, and Biblically Proper Use of Force

Audience Who Should Attend:

Responsible and conscientious adults who serve as part of an organization’s security ministry or life safety team. Any person who wants to build or improve their foundation for deploying a firearm as a life-saving tool in an emergency will benefit from this course.

IMPORTANT This is not a “handgun 101” course. Participants must already have a basic understanding of and ability to safely handle and manipulate their pistol in a controlled manner with a calm demeanor. TAP is a basic, skill-building course but it is not an introductory course for a person who has never fired a handgun or who is not familiar with how to safely handle a handgun. You need not be an accomplished marksman, but your behavior and actions must demonstrate that you have a keen awareness of the powerfully destructive potential of a firearm.

NOTE: At the beginning of class you will be asked to demonstrate how to perform the functions of your firearm and physical measures listed under the “Prerequisites and Physical Requirements for Firearms Training” section. If you cannot perform these tasks you will not be allowed to continue with the course.

An operator must have a keen awareness and consideration for other operators while handling fire-arms and conducting drills in close proximity of other operators. An operator should be familiar with their weapons and equipment and be able to field strip their fire-arm for cleaning, maintenance, and problem-solving.

Instructor candidates are expected to be excellent communicators and willing to adapt to the role of being a student-learner as well as an instructor. There is no place in the training arena for personal aggrandizement or ego.

Our Philosophy:

Our training staff is composed of professional and experienced coaches and we are students ourselves.

We believe in treating everyone respectfully and as adult learners. Our coaches participate in the learning process and we use a building block approach to solidify skills before moving toward more advanced concepts while under duress.

Through managing fear the capable operator will operate more confidently, more quickly, and make better decisions in the stressful environment of a true emergency.

We do not believe in “check the box” training or lowest common denominator training. Individual assistance is always available.

You should not enroll in our course if you are:

  • Not safe and conscientious with weapons
  • Not willing to be open-minded
  • Not willing to receive new information and try new concepts
  • Not capable of keeping your ego in check

Firearms & Tactical Training Course Applications for the Pistol – Level 2

TAP2 is a compliment to and continuation of our TAP1 program. In this constructively life-changing course, we continue to use a building block approach to briefly review the tactics and techniques introduced during TAP1 and then move ahead with additional skills that will support your prevailing in an armed engagement. From the foundation you built during TAP1 we will add:

  • Accounting for and managing multiple operators engaged in armed conflict.
  • Clearing multiple stoppages in a compressed time frame and under stress.

Exercises and Drills Include: We blend dry technical work, live-fire range exercises, range briefings and discussions, and case studies in order to incorporate multiple channels and learning modes for each participant. TAP1 or Pistol Camp is a prerequisite for TAP2. With due respect to other training programs that are offered by other companies, we do not recognize their programs as a substitute for ours. TAP2 is not a beginner’s course. Our target audience is the responsible and conscientious operator who serves as part of an organization’s armed security team or life safety ministry. You need not be a competitive marksman, but your behavior and actions must demonstrate that you have a keen awareness of the powerful and life-changing potential of a firearm.

NOTE: At the beginning of class you will be required to demonstrate how to perform the functions of your firearm and physical measures listed under the “Prerequisites and Physical Requirements for Firearms Training” section. If you cannot perform these tasks you will not be allowed to continue with the course and your fees will not be refunded. All participants should be prepared to undergo a nationwide background check as a requirement to participate in this training.

Firearms & Tactical Training Course – Pistol Camp

Audience/Who Should Attend – Prerequisites:

This is our flagship pistol training course targeting the operator who wants a full immersion experience in how to operate as a discretely armed protector. We designed this 4-day program and “training camp” as the base and standard for armed protectors.

We welcome novices and you need not be a competitive marksman, but your behavior and actions must demonstrate that you have a keen awareness of and respect for the powerful and life-changing potential of a firearm. NOTE: At the beginning of class, you will be required to demonstrate how to perform the functions of your firearm and physical measures listed under the “Prerequisites and Physical Requirements for Firearms Training” section. If you cannot perform these tasks you will not be allowed to continue with the course and your fees will not be refunded.

All participants should be prepared to undergo a nationwide background check as a requirement to participate in this training.

Note: Our Tactical Applications for the Pistol series (2-day classes), TAP1 and TAP2, are not Pistol Camp divided in half. TAP1 and TAP2 cover topics and drills that are included in our Pistol Camp, but they are not intended as a substitute for Pistol Camp. The curriculum is different.

Regarding our Training Philosophy and Practices:

Our training staff is composed of professional and experienced coaches and we take pride in being students ourselves. We believe in treating everyone respectfully and as adult learners. Our coaches participate in the learning process and we use a building block approach to solidify skills before moving toward more advanced concepts. We believe that “capability breeds humility.” In other words, by achieving a higher level of skill you will be able to better maintain composure while under duress. Through managing fear the capable operator will operate more confidently, more quickly, and make better decisions in the stressful environment of a true emergency.
We do not believe in “check the box” training nor do we believe in “lowest common denominator” training. Individual assistance is one of our strengths. Those who are not safe and conscientious with their firearms, those who are not willing to be open-minded, receive new information and try new concepts, and those who are not capable of keeping their ego in check should not enroll in our trainings.

Prerequisites and Physical Requirements for Firearms Training:

  • You must understand the basics of how your firearm operates and be able to: Lock the pistol open using the slide stop with the magazine removed; Use the decocking lever to render the pistol safe (if so equipped); Engage and disengage all safety devices (as equipped) while maintaining a master grip; Release and recover an empty magazine using the magazine release; Field strip the pistol according to your owner’s manual for maintenance and cleaning.
  • You must be able to operate in a SAFE and CONTROLLED manner. Speed is not an issue. Muzzle discipline (where the gun is pointed) and awareness is paramount.
  • You must possess the physical strength and stamina to repetitively function and fire your pistol during training drills. You must be able to move forward, backward, and laterally under control while holding your firearm in front of you and pointed downrange. As a matter of general fitness and a gauge for this course, you should be able to be on your feet for 3-4 hours, get down on the ground and back up again unassisted, perform 10 squats, and climb two flights of stairs at walking speed without becoming short of breath.
  • You must have personal self-discipline and be able to always maintain mental, physical, and emotional control and not become over-excited or lose your composure. You must be open-minded and willing to accept coaching and instruction and follow commands.
  • You must have a keen awareness and consideration for other participants while handling firearms and conducting drills in proximity of one another.
  • You must speak and understand fluent English.

Your Pistol:

Participants will use a full size or compact pistol that fills the hand and allows all fingers to contact and wrap around the grip. Subcompact “pocket” pistols, (.22, .25, .32, and .380 calibers) are not allowed. You may use a revolver OR a semiautomatic pistol, but it must be of excellent quality and function without difficulty. If you train with a revolver, it must be a double action model. Ultra-small pistols that only allow a three-fingered grip, derringers, revolvers that require you to remove the cylinder pin to reload them, single action revolvers and any pistol that has a capacity of less than five rounds are prohibited.

Your Belt, Holster, and Gear:

NYLON, LEATHER, or FABRIC HOLSTERS THAT COLLAPSE WHEN THE PISTOL IS DRAWN ARE NOT ALLOWED IN OUR TRAINING. Holsters must be rigid and retain their shape. Inside-the-waistband and external belt holsters are both welcome as long as they are rigid and do not collapse or pancake when the pistol is drawn. You must use a secure and well-fitting holster that retains your firearm near your dominant hip. When holstered, the trigger guard of your pistol must be completely covered. “Secure” means that your pistol will never come out of the holster accidentally. Other types of holsters such as cross-draw, shoulder, ankle, belly-band, purse or fanny pack models are valid methods of carry but are not acceptable for this training.

Ammunition:

Minimum 1,500 rounds factory ammunition for the handgun. Ammunition may be hard to obtain from some suppliers. Purchase quality ammunition well in advance!

Logistics:

Make sure you have the necessary equipment listed for training. Having a backup firearm, holster, magazines, and ammunition is recommended in case of mechanical failure or a stoppage we cannot correct. We cannot guarantee that a “loaner” will be available for you.

Required Gear and Equipment:

  • Pistol according to listed acceptable guidelines
  • Holster according to listed acceptable guidelines
  • 4 magazines or speed loaders for your pistol
  • Belt-mounted pouch to carry at least 2 spare magazines or speed loaders (you must be able to carry a minimum of 24 rounds of ammunition on your person for all exercises)
  • High intensity flashlight (tail cap switch preferred) and spare batteries

  • Wraparound eye protection – prescription glasses are acceptable
  • Ball cap or cap with brim
  • Jacket, vest, or heavy shirt to conceal your pistol and work from a concealed position

In other words providing practical and simple education on this problem actually REDUCES FEAR not increases it.

2 ½ Core Value Index (CVI) Foundational E-learning Course

Getting the right people to do the right thing at the right time, in the right way, and for the right reason.
We will tell you what it takes decades to learn about a person, in 7-9 minutes, measuring the part of them that doesn’t change and can’t be faked

This 2 ½ hr. E-learning foundational course on the “Core Value Index” model will provide the foundation for the following:

  • Understand how fellow team members are hardwired provide better understanding on how to communicate with them
  • Provide alignment with how a person is hardwired to the position that you are asking that team member fo fulfill
  • De-personalize potential conflict areas between team members based on their understanding how each person is hardwired

Using the most reliable psychometrics assessments available, we exist to help you:

  • Find what’s hidden – in people where untapped potential can be unleashed
  • Free what’s stuck – in situations where limiting factors can be removed
  • Fix what’s broken – in crisis where unspeakable damage can be prevented

We’ve all seen them: personality tests designed to make us more self-aware: “You are an E, S, T, J” or a “lion vs otter” and a “Wing 3w2”- descriptions that end up in a drawer. Then there’s the alluring social media surveys that tell us what Disney character we resemble or whether we would be chosen for Gryffindor or Slytherin: tools that trick us into giving away details about ourselves to those who want to market to us online.

While there is nothing wrong with gauging our personalities, they change. Depending on our station in life, what mood we are in, what we ate for breakfast, and whether we are at odds with someone relationally, our results can differ drastically from week to week.

At Hardwired Coaching, we are interested in measuring what no one else is measuring: that part of you that doesn’t change and can’t be faked. We are after your hardwiring. We believe that everyone on earth was put here with a unique capacity to make a positive difference in the world, for the good of others. We also believe that capacity is largely untapped, least understood, poorly stewarded, and in many cases, severely warped.

In a world flooded with labor-intensive and unreliable assessment tools, which change 20-40% within weeks, and with 76% of individuals in the workforce admitting they are unfulfilled in their present role, we believe it’s time to bring the latest advancements in psychometric analysis to the tactical world, the boardroom, the sports arena, the counseling desk, your local church, or even into your home. We will help you measure what no one else is measuring, so you can do what you were made to do.

Let’s face it, you are taking a risk on anyone you entrust with responsibility. Most of the time, we are guessing at who they are and what they bring based on the persona they project and the testimony of a few of their best friends, but likability and personality can only get someone so far. It’s not until they roll up their sleeves and get to work that you find out whether you were right or wrong, a potentially costly mistake. At Hardwired Coaching, we can tell what capacity someone has, how much, and to what degree… in seven minutes. Looking to put the right people in the right spot? We can help you identify, align, and focus training on the people that give you the greatest advantage of success, in the following areas:
