In today’s world, active shooters, bomb threats, mental health issues, family disturbances, and medical incidents are all a real part of what Faith Based Security teams face every week. In this session, David shares lessons learned from his 40-year church safety career and challenges us to “Be Prepared” for all that may come our way.
David Dixon is a security expert with over 40 years of experience in church safety. He has dealt with various security challenges, including active shooters, bomb threats, and mental health issues. David’s mission is to help faith-based security teams prepare for all possible scenarios and ensure the safety of their communities.

How the US has failed at this for over 30+ years. Understanding the attack and attacker. What saves lives: what does not, and more.
2) Considerations for Armed Responders to Active Shooter Attacks
This presentation will improve the armed responder’s understanding of the Active Shooter attack and how to end it quickly. Topics covered include gear, mental preparation, issues armed responders should expect to encounter while fighting the Active Shooter, and the attack environment.
Ed Monk is a renowned expert in active shooter response and has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and tactical training. This breakout will provide a high-level review of the recent incidents in Texas churches, offering critical insights into the importance of preparedness and effective response strategies. We will explore best practices for volunteers/training, communication, and situational awareness, emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of safety and vigilance.

Crisis Casualty Care
When a medical emergency occurs, success or failure will depend on the person on the scene, not the professional first responders. Crisis Casualty Care is not a basic first aid course. The concepts presented are based on the most current and innovative techniques currently in use by the U.S. military as dictated by the Tactical Combat Casualty Care model as well as civilian EMS trauma guidelines.
Chris Misselt specializes in crisis casualty care, focusing on emergency response and trauma management. His breakout session introduces participants to advanced medical techniques derived from U.S. military practices and adapted for civilian use, preparing attendees to handle critical incidents effectively before professional responders arrive.

His breakout session focuses on equipping protectors with the necessary skills to navigate and operate effectively in low-light or no-light environments, enhancing their ability to ensure safety and security in challenging conditions.

The S.A.F.E. Approach
The S.A.F.E. Approach™ is a training program designed specifically for those in healthcare and other professions where the effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills can reduce the risk of negative or violent encounters with patients, visitors, or customers. During those rare occasions where verbal attempts at de-escalation fail, the program instructs participants in the physical skills necessary to protect themselves and others. To date, this program has been taught to over 20,000 individuals.
Mike Owen is a seasoned trainer specializing in workplace violence mitigation. He developed The S.A.F.E. Approach™, a program aimed at teaching effective communication and physical protection skills to prevent and handle violent encounters in healthcare, business, and faith communities. His dedication has helped over 20,000 individuals learn critical self-protection techniques.

For security teams who are also assigned to close protection for their pastors during services and/or special events. This session will discuss various options to consider based upon different platform/stage designs.
Rod Land is an expert in close protection for pastoral and platform settings. His session focuses on strategies and best practices for security teams tasked with providing close protection during services and special events. Rod offers insights into how different stage designs can affect security planning and response.
STEVEN SVESTKA
Tactics and Firearms Handling
A hands-on primer to Strategos’ foundational 4-hour INDOOR firearms course, focusing on behavioral-based responses for armed protectors, including decision making in and around crowds during an active threat. Preparation is required in order to make proper, time-compressed decisions in worst-case scenarios. This session includes drills for a variety of firearm carry positions and movements. Students will practice techniques using demo firearms and holsters (provided).
Steven Svestka is an expert in tactical training and firearms handling. His breakout session provides a hands-on introduction to Strategos’ firearms course, focusing on decision-making, tactics, and effective firearms handling during active threats. Participants will learn critical skills through practical drills and scenarios, ensuring they are prepared to make quick, informed decisions in high-stress situations.
